Successful: A H S Orchestras’ 14th Annual Benefit Dinner
It was another outstanding success for the three combined Arcadia High School Orchestras and their 14th Annual Benefit Dinner on February 23rd. This year’s theme, “Mardi Gras Magic”, was well accepted by appreciative parents, fans and all music lovers in attendance at the appropriately decorated (gold, green and purple) Arcadia Community Center. The evening began with outstanding student ensembles greeting guests, patrons and benefactors as they entered the hall. Prior to dinner, the honored attendees enjoyed Cajun style giant shrimp appetizers, socialized, and participated in a silent auction.
Immediately following the catered scrumptious meal, students performed a wide selection of outstanding classical music. This year’s professional entertainment was provided by master vocalist and musician of Bluegrass, Cajun, and Zydeco music, Tom Sauber (fiddle, banjo, guitar and mandolin). Tom was accompanied by veterans Mark Graham (harmonica) and Patrick Sauber, a born, raised, and graduated Arcadian (banjo and guitar). The finale was the traditional “surround sound” of 350+ student musicians, from all three orchestras strategically placed throughout the banquet room, for pure listening enjoyment. Directors Tom Forbes and Rick England, of course, conducted them. Among the theme based finale music was “Light Calvary Overture” and “Zydeco Two Step” (accompanied by an old-fashioned washboard). Mark your calendar now for February 28, 2009, so you don’t miss next years 15th Annual Benefit Dinner.
