Arcadia High School 51st Annual Music Camp (2008)

The 51st Annual Music Camp held in the last week of August 2008 went smoothly and was a great success. The Idyllwild hills were alive with the sound of music!  Band, orchestra, and color guard members--585 in all--spent the week before the opening of school perfecting each measure of the season's performances.  What a thrill it was to listen to the sounds and see the flags flying on Monday morning.  Then each day the perfection, rhythm, and unison grew.  By the end of the week is was like three different groups than the ones that arrived six days earlier.  By the time the orchestra performed at the Idyllwild Elementary School Friday morning, each group may not have scaled many physical mountains, but had conquered mountains of material.  Team skills had grown.  Sandwiched in between were basket ball competitions, time in the pool, bike rides around campus, and time to lounge around with friends.  Practice for drill downs, Pep Band practice, and prep for skit night were all worked in.  Star gazing was amazing every night.  By the end of the last dance Thursday night,  all realized that Music Camp is the perfect beginning to the music season with unparalleled tutoring by 24 professional instructors, team building, and friendships developed and rekindled.
